more surgery

Met with new surgeon today.
He will attempt to insert a large stent into her ureter to see if that will help it stay open thereby eliminating the need for nephrostomy tube and urine bag she wears around her ankle. That’s the goal. No more tubes coming out of her back.
It’s general anesthetic but only one day or two days hospitalization. Yay! It will get changed out every 3 months.
Doc was quite clear that things could go horribly wrong. Infections might explode, things might get worse causing more leakage and worst case they might have to eventually remove her kidney. She is just too complicated to make any predictions.
Amy heard only positive things. She so desperately wants the leg bag gone that she’s willing to do anything. She chose not to hear the challenges that might be involved. Drives me loopy but I understand.
Surgery is tentatively scheduled for January 11.

I have my grief support group tomorrow. Probably a good thing. I used to tell everyone in my circle every detail as it happened. It helped me process things and recount what doc said. Now that I no longer have family or friends I dump on this blog. Still, it helps me to remember things that were discussed. Even if I don’t go into much detail.
Nephrostomy tube is supposed to be changed every 6 weeks. That’s today but she’s been waiting for this appointment. He wants it changed now so it can’t grow more infections. That’ll have to have happen very soon.

So…it looks like I’ll be dealing with new puppy and hospital or maybe our daughter can drive her and pick her up. Or Our daughter can look after puppy. I really wanted this to be over before Xmas so our schedule would be puppy free. Sigh…yup crazy!!
