This is the first time I’ve attempted to blog. Why am I doing this and what’s it all about and why the crazy name?
First, the blog is for me. I’m not interested in making money, finding support or helping anyone. If you happen upon this site and you gain some wisdom or insight…great! But I am done with taking care of people and their feelings. Yup, I’m clinically burnt out. I need to talk so I’m letting my thoughts float around the universe hoping that I will heal and if you wanna come along that’s up to you.
This blog is about Melanoma and the affect it has on caregivers ( and a bit on the patients).
I am a caregiver. I wear that crown proudly. But sometimes that crown has thorns! I’ll talk about the highs and lows, I’ll talk about the grief and loss and I’ll talk about hope.
The name of my website comes from two competing ideas. Rainbows are symbolically hopeful and they’re also a sign of the gay community. I’m both hopeful for the future and a lesbian.
if you found this site then you’re probably aware black is the colour of melanoma and unicorns are the animal used to symbolize it because melanoma ( especially mucosal melanoma) is so rare it’s kinda like a mythical animal hiding in the forest. Black unicorns are indicators of strength and power and push us towards our optimist goals. Isn’t that cool! It’s such a nice image.
So that’s it. I’m here and I know you’re out there
Until next time…
